Should I send my child to school or keep them home?

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Every year students become ill due to exposure to other sick children in the classroom.  To help reduce the spread of contagious illness, and to help you in making decisions about whether or not to send your child to school, we have put together the following guidelines.  If your child has any of these symptoms, you should keep your child at home.  If the symptoms continue, you may need to contact your healthcare provider.

*    Fever of 100 degrees or higher.  A child should be fever free without the use of fever reducing medication for at least 24 hours before returning to school.  Your child may be sent home for symptoms that interfere with learning even     without a fever.
*    Persistent coughing.
*    Sore throat with fever, rash, white spots on the throat, and may be accompanied by stomachaches and headaches.
*    Rash with fever.
*    Red, itchy, painful, swollen or draining eyes.  If conjunctivitis or "pink eye" is diagnosed, the child must be on medication for 24 hours or more before returning to school.
*    Prolonged headaches or stomachaches, sometimes involving nausea and vomiting.
*    Swelling or pain at a level that interferes with your child's learning.
*    Earaches.
*    Toothaches.
*    Head Lice:  A child must remain at home until treated with a medicated lice shampoo and all of the nits must be combed/removed.  Students must be cleared through the Health Office before returning to class.  Please notify the
school if your child has head lice so that we can check classmates and send home notification letters for parents to check at home.

Feel free to contact the school's Health Office if you have any questions.

Thank you,
